Connect with your audience through the Sentolib audience research.
After a successful first edition, Sentolib will once again be offered to public libraries in 2025. The study is now available as a permanent tool that libraries can use as needed or on a continuous basis.
The research provides an easily accessible instrument to scientifically survey your own members and visitors on all relevant aspects of their library experience.
This independent study is organized with the support of local library associations and 7 Universities across Europe. This independent research is offered to public libraries in Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland. New countries will be added later this year.
Read the publications by European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations (EBLIDA), Vlaamse Vereniging voor Bibliotheek, Archief & Documentation (VVBAD), Deutscher Bibliotheksverband (DBV), Association des Bibliothécaires de France (ABF), Büchereiverband Österreichs (BVÖ) and Vereniging Openbare Bibliotheken (VOB).

Sento ~ Esperanto: "Feeling, Experience"
Esperanto (/ˌɛspəˈrɑːntoʊ/ or /ˌɛspəˈræntoʊ/) is the world's most widely spoken constructed international auxiliary language, intended to be a universal second language for international communication – "the international language".

What will I learn from this study?
This study provides you with feedback from your audience on the following key areas:
-
Experience and impressions of your library
-
Evaluation of the library’s offerings
-
Impact of the library on its users (Impact Compass Model)
-
Assessment of infrastructure and environment
-
Evaluation of communication
-
Profile of your members and visitors
-
… … …
It is also possible to add your own questions.

Personalized Questionnaire
The study offers a well-designed and balanced questionnaire that covers the key aspects of a library visit. It was developed in collaboration with the study’s academic partners, national library associations, and several practitioners from the field.
The questionnaire is adapted to the local context of your library, and if there are specific questions you prefer not to include, they can easily be removed.
You also have the option to add your own questions.

Reporting & Benchmarking
You will receive a comprehensive research report with the results for your library.
The report also gives you the opportunity to compare your results anonymously with a cluster of similar libraries and the national and international results.
In addition, you will gain access to a personal, dynamic dashboard with filters, cross-tabulations, and charts, which you can consult and interact with at any time.

Which target group is addressed?
The target group of the study consists of the members and visitors of your library.
If desired, former members and non-visitors can also be included in the study.
A simplified version is integrated into the survey for specific target groups.
The research is available in multiple languages: German, English, French, Dutch, Spanish, and Italian.

Privacy
Data Protection
The study is fully independent: all research results and data collected for your library remain your property at all times and are never shared with third parties.
The privacy of all respondents is guaranteed in full compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Reaching respondents
The study provides all necessary communication tools to help you easily promote the survey to your users, former users, and non-users.
Incentives are offered to further encourage participation.
For each completed survey, 1 m² of endangered rainforest is preserved through the World Land Trust.

Is it labour-intensive for my organisation to participate?
The study is designed to have as little impact as possible on the workload of your library staff.
It follows a clear, predefined process consisting of three simple steps:
-
Confirm your participation here
-
Submit some basic information about your library via a dedicated webpage — this information will be used to program a survey tailored to your institution
-
Share the survey with your audience in a simple way, communication materials will be provided for this purpose
At the end of the study, you will receive your personalised report with detailed results.

How much is the participation fee?
Thanks to the unique and large-scale approach of this study, participation costs are kept as low as possible. Fees vary depending on the size of your library, ranging from €420 to €1100. These are all-inclusive prices.
You may also choose to split the invoice across two fiscal years.
Market prices for similar types of research are often significantly higher.
A tailored offer is available for libraries run by volunteers. Feel free to request more information without obligation.

When?
Sentolib is available throughout the entire year.
You can survey your members and visitors whenever it suits your library best. You may choose between two reporting periods: May or November.
You can register your library for participation [here].
